On a personal note, my interest in Nutrition also comes from my grandmother’s health battles with diabetes and chronic kidney disease. Growing up in an Indian household, conversations about Nutrition weren’t widespread. I was pretty young—like 7 or 8—when I first learned about diabetes, and I had no idea what it meant back then. It’s wild to think she was only 64 when she passed away. I can still picture her thinking that eating brown sugar would help her health—she would go through packets of it, convinced it was the answer. My parents did everything they could, keeping a close eye on her, making healthy meals, and avoiding processed snacks and sugary foods.
Thinking about my college years, it’s been quite a ride! After jumping between four majors, I discovered I could major in Nutrition. I always knew I wanted to be in science, but I wasn’t sure which path to take. Finally, during my sophomore year, I decided to dive into Nutrition and Dietetics, and it’s been an enlightening experience.
The knowledge I’ve gained over the past couple of years is astonishing! It’s fascinating to see how much nutrition research has evolved and grown. Seeing how much nutrition research has changed and grown is interesting.
You won’t believe how I got into Exercise and Sports Science! I was hooked when I realized how it ties in with Nutrition. It was a game-changer for me to see all the different classes in the program and recognize that even those tiny nutrients we overlook are vital for our bodies. Jumping into all those classes, getting hands-on training, and giving presentations became one of my best choices ever.
